Who Is Better for Braces: an Orthodontist or a Dentist

Both dental professionals work on teeth but who should straighten your smile? Your family dentist takes care of your oral health in general but now you’ve heard your dentist also offers Invisalign® treatment but the truth is that despite the fact they offer orthodontic treatment, it doesn’t make them orthodontists. Dentists treat your cavities, remove wisdom teeth, replace a crown, do your dental cleanings, etc. Are you searching for Orthodontist in Broward County?

Orthodontists have 3,700 hours of orthodontic training. Your orthodontist is a specialist.

Orthodontics is a specialty within dentistry that focuses on correcting bites, occlusion, and the straightness of teeth. In other words, orthodontists are dentists, but dentists are not orthodontists.

Orthodontists can offer orthodontic appliances of any kind such as palate expanders, braces, headgears, Invisalign® aligners, retainers, etc. They treat crowded teeth, gapped teeth, crossbites, underbites, overbites, deep bites, misaligned teeth, crowding, etc. because they’re specialists who focus on the bite and teeth.

While finding the best orthodontist in Broward County, you first need to make sure that you are choosing an orthodontist for your orthodontic treatment and not just someone who does braces. Your orthodontist is a specialist if they have graduated from an accredited orthodontic program and belong to the American Association of Orthodontists. In addition to this, no matter where you find the name of your dental professional, be sure to ask if your doctor is a specialist and how long their specialty training was. If they do not have two to three years of additional training, they are not specialists.

Get Recommendations

The next place you can seek a referral for an orthodontist in Broward County can be from another dental specialist in the area. Although many primary care dentists may be helpful in your search, it’s recommended to check the practice reviews, social proof of the orthodontist you’re going to choose to straighten your teeth is important.

Search for an Orthodontist in Broward County Online

If you live in Broward then you will search Orthodontist in Broward County, then you will get the best result. Another useful source of information is the Internet. Look for ‘the best orthodontist for braces’ and you should be able to find the best orthodontist for braces in your area. Practice websites do not always portray the quality of work accurately. What’s more, a bad orthodontist always has the option of hiring a good website designer. And if the practice has a poorly maintained website or no website at all, this is an indication of the fact that the orthodontist does not keep up with the times. Therefore, it is always important to search for reviews of orthodontists you are considering.

Is your teen ready for invisalign

How I Regained My Confidence With Invisalign® Teen

A good smile radiates health, vitality, joy, and confidence, but for that perfect smile, one got to have perfect teeth. Let me start this by saying I’ve always had crooked teeth. I never had that perfect Hollywood smile. As a child, my bad habit of sucking my thumb made my teeth visibly misaligned. As soon as I started to get my adult teeth, my mom thought I needed braces. My orthodontist had to widen my jaw and work with an oral surgeon to finally be able to get me braces so I could achieve that picture-perfect grin. Know more about Invisalign® Teen.

At that time, my mom wanted me to have regular braces because she didn’t trust me with the removable Invisalign® Teen aligners and I had no option but to wear braces as a teenager.

Invisalign® Teen

At first, I endured everything because who wouldn’t want nicely aligned teeth. But as time passed, my braces became my worst nightmare. I wanted to eat popcorn, sticky candies, hard foods like pizza crust and I couldn’t.

The metal wires and brackets gave me canker sores, and I couldn’t eat properly for days. Brushing my teeth was time-consuming and very difficult. I had to spend a reasonable amount of time brushing food that got stuck in my brackets every day. The worst of all was my shattering confidence. I already thought I had the ugliest smile, and braces made this even worse, I didn’t want to smile at school or for pictures because I thought the metal braces made my smile look uglier.

To my surprise, I was told I only had to wear them for two years, but my stubborn teeth took more time than that. I missed a lot of check-up appointments to adjust my braces so that delayed the treatment a lot. As a young girl, I must admit that always despised my metal braces. But everything changed for the better when my orthodontist told me I could switch to Invisalign® aligners.

My mom used to say that braces or not, I was a beautiful girl, but that wasn’t enough for me. So, I decided to get Invisalign® treatment by one of the most experienced orthodontists, Dr. Maria Yazji.

Luckily my orthodontist in Downtown Brickell was already one of the most prominent Invisalign® providers in the country. Yes, my orthodontist, Dr. Yazji, is an Invisalign® Diamond Plus Provider nationwide, so I couldn’t go wrong.

At first, I was nervous. My crooked teeth, surgeries, and then my braces had made me skeptical of any dental procedure. But my orthodontist, Maria Yazji, knew it was Invisalign® the solution I needed and she made me feel comfortable enough to tell her my concerns. She explained the whole process in detail and showed me a preview of my new smile.

Invisalign® aligners

She took a new x-ray, a 3D scan of my teeth, pictures, and in a couple of days, I got my Invisalign® aligners. After a week or so, she glued some ‘buttons’ on my teeth which helped guide the movement of the teeth towards the desired position. They were enamel color, almost unnoticeable.

My Invisalign® treatment was so much better and more comfortable than braces. I had no brackets, no wires rubbing my cheeks, and I could remove my trays to brush my teeth and eat whatever I wanted. That was the best part!

Yes, it did hurt a little bit when I moved to the next set of trays, but overall, it was a much more comfortable experience than wearing braces.

Soon I began to regain my confidence. My crooked smile was fixed, and now I can smile or laugh or grin without feeling ashamed of my teeth. You should see my Instagram feed now, showing off my smile in every post. I can’t stop smiling!

I would say my life changed after my Invisalign® treatment by Dr. Maria Yazji in Brickell.

If you are also concerned about your smile, Dr. Maria Yazji offers complimentary appointments. So, if you have any questions about getting Invisalign®, feel free to call her office at 305.780.6418 and book an appointment or fill out the contact form here.

She sees patients in Weston, Brickell, and West Miami. Believe me, it’s worth a shot.

Taking Care of Your Braces at School

If you’re wearing braces, then you are already on the path to a perfect smile. But it is also very important to keep your teeth and braces clean. When you don’t keep your braces clean, bacteria can grow and lead to cavities and gum disease. The last thing you want is to have an unhealthy mouth and a smile full of decay when you finally get your braces off. Taking Care of Your Braces at School and tips for Wearing Braces at School.

Wearing Braces at School

When I first got my braces during the summer break, the orthodontist talked to me about how important it is to care for them. It was easy taking care of them while being at home most of the time. But then, I had to go to school with them. The idea of taking care of my braces on a typical school day with a busy schedule and extracurricular activities sounded quite frustrating. But taking care of braces is as easy at school as it is at home.

My orthodontist whom I went to for braces in Weston gave me some tips that helped make my life with braces a bit easier.

Remember: braces will help you get a healthier and more beautiful smile

Yes, it does take a bit of effort, but the braces help your teeth, gums, mouth, and jaws to be healthier. When your orthodontist finally removes your braces, you will have a healthier and more beautiful smile that will last a lifetime if you wear your orthodontic retainers. This is key!

What are some essential items that you should carry with you?

The hassle of carrying your braces’ cleaning tools to school may sound like quite a lot of effort. You might not like the idea of carrying the kit around, but it will save you a lot of discomforts when something gets stuck in your teeth or braces. With these essential items, you will be able to take care of them right away.

The best way to go about it would be to invest in a pencil case, a small makeup bag, or even a toiletry bag to carry your cleaning essentials with you to school. This way you will always be ready to take care of your braces. Invest in tiny toothbrushes, small containers of toothpaste, floss, and a small mirror, moreover, carrying a travel-sized container of mouthwash or breath strips will help keep your mouth fresh.

If it is difficult for you to clean around brackets and wires, interdental brushes are a great tool for you. Carry extra rubber bands and hooks if you wear these.

What’s more, wearing braces can cause the lips to stretch wider over your teeth, leading to chapped and dry lips. You can include a stick of lip balm in your kit, for when your lips are too chapped. With these essential items, you will be able to take care of them right away.
