What Are Dermal Fillers?
It’s no secret that the shape of your face subtly changes as you get older. This is due to a number of factors, including shifting of the fat beneath your skin and changes in your skin’s elasticity. The result can be a gaunt appearance, deep wrinkles or folds, and thin lips.
Luckily, you don’t have to put up with an aged appearance! Dermal fillers work to “plump up” the areas that need help so your face can retain the softness and fullness of your younger years.
Many people believe that dermal fillers can only be administered by a plastic surgeon. This is not true! Dentists and orthodontists have extensively studied the anatomy of the face. We are in the business of creating beautiful smiles, and the skin around your smile is just as important as your teeth!
Dr. Maria Yazji is proud to offer dermal fillers at our Weston, FL orthodontic practice.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
While dermal fillers (like Juvéderm) are often used in conjunction with treatments like Botox, they actually work differently. Botox, and other treatments like it, prevent movement of the small muscles that contribute to wrinkles.
Dermal fillers, on the other hand, repair the damage that has already resulted by creating additional plumping beneath the wrinkle or in the hollowed-out or thin area to fill it in, smooth it out, and help it return to its previous youthful appearance. The effects can last for anywhere between six months to two years.
Often, dermal fillers are used in conjunction with Botox since the combination can produce amazing results.
