Early Orthodontics Treatment

Early Orthodontic Treatment is Paramount to a Child’s Oral Health

Maintaining the health of your child is one of the most important responsibilities as a parent. Your child’s health and happiness are paramount to their overall well-being.  Encouraging healthy eating and fitness, making sure your child gets enough sleep, limiting their sugar intake, and providing regular checkups and immunizations at the pediatrician’s office are central to their care. An additional aspect to a child’s health is their oral health, including both dental and orthodontic care.  Regular dental exams and cleanings are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth.  Orthodontic care is also central to ensuring your child’s future oral health.

Early Orthodontic Treatment is Paramount

Orthodontic care in young children is known as interceptive orthodontics and can start as early as age 6 or 7.  Dr. Maria Yazji Orthodontics, serving Miramar children and their families, is an expert on early orthodontic treatments for her youngest patients. While you might commonly see braces on kids in their preteen and teenage years, the value of early orthodontic treatment is immeasurable.  Dr. Yazji has 22 years of providing orthodontic care in South Florida and she can pinpoint issues with your child’s jaw and dental arch development. If identified at an early age, functional appliances can improve or even fix these orthodontic problems.

Miramar’s leading orthodontist for early intervention, Dr. Maria Yazji Orthodontics, follows a two-phase approach to the treatment of young children.  The overall goal in the first phase of treatment is to create conditions conducive to allowing the proper development of a child’s upper jaw – accommodating all of their permanent teeth and improving their dental bite. When treatment is started before all adult teeth have emerged, it’s known as Phase One Treatment. Successful first phase treatment will have created room for permanent teeth to find an eruption path, so it’s best to allow them some freedom of movement.

Once your child’s permanent teeth have erupted, the second phase of treatment begins. Phase Two goal is to ensure each tooth is perfectly located within the mouth. Using the information learned during Phase One, Miramar’s leading family orthodontist, Dr. Maria Yazji, will establish a diagnosis and treatment plan if warranted.  Phase Two usually includes full upper and lower braces on all teeth for an average of 24 months.

Just as you wouldn’t delay your child’s immunization shots to protect your child’s physical health, ensuring your child’s oral health shouldn’t be delayed either. We invite you to contact Dr. Maria Yazji Orthodontics for a consultation and evaluation for your young child at (954) 217-3737 or visit our website. A healthy smile is a gift every child deserves!
