It’s National Orthodontic Health Month

October is National Orthodontic Health Month

Are you a candy lover? We thought so! Most children love candy. Halloween can be a lot of fun for adults and children but it’s important to consider the impact on your teeth during this season, particularly when you’re wearing braces and orthodontic appliances. To encourage our patients to choose treats wisely during the month of October, we’ll be giving extra Smile Rewards!

Here’s how you can collect more points on your card:

Patients who come in for their first appointment after Halloween with nothing loose or broken will be given 5 Smile Rewards points toward their next gift card! To schedule your appointment for our Weston, downtown Brickell, or West Miami office you can contact us at 954.280.4399 or 305.780.6418

Would you like to know how to avoid a sticky situation this Halloween? Then continue reading our orthodontic tips.

  1. Let sticky foods RIP. If it is hard, sticky, chewy, or crunchy, stay away!
  2. Choose “Spooktacularly” Soft Foods. Choose soft chocolate, peanut butter, or other melt-in-your-mouth varieties.
  3. Say Boo to Hard Foods. Avoid hard shell candies, nuts, hard tortillas chips, and popcorn.
  4. Dare to Take Extra Care. Decide to make good choices before Halloween and brush/floss your teeth after eating any sugary treats.
  5. Try not to suck or chew lollypops for a long time. This will help prevent the sugar and acid ‘sitting’ on your teeth.
  6. Remember to brush and floss.
  7. Wait till you get home to eat your candy. It’s better to have an adult personally check your sweets before you have them.
  8. If you don’t have the chance to brush, at least rinse your mouth with water after eating candies

It does not matter if you’re wearing traditional braces/metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, or WildSmile braces, treat your braces right and get some extra Smile Rewards this season! To check how many points you have on your card, you can click here.

We also want to share with you some safety tips for the month of October.

See and be seen

Please be safe out there and stay well lit. Apply reflective tape to your costume, carry a flashlight or a glow stick. Keep your way lit and ensure you’re seen by drivers on the road.

Pick your costume carefully

Will you be wearing a mask? Make sure you can see where you’re going. Masks and costumes shouldn’t block vision.

Be a good pedestrian

Always cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look both ways before crossing.

Have a safe and happy Halloween from all of us at Dr. Yazji Orthodontics!
